For our anniversary my husband gave the “Hatch” notebook by Ink+Volt.  As with all things stationary, I went crazy! It’s just a nifty notebook too. It lets you add in ideas as you go and it lets you split them up into three sections: conceive, incubate and hatch. To try out the notebook, I decided to work on a project I’ve been wanting to do for a while – a font!

Conceive: Make a new font!

Incubate: I wasn’t sure what I wanted in a font…I love monoline styles so I knew it had to be a monoline font. Then, I used Pinterest for inspiration. There are so many talented designers out there! Finally, I decided with a cursive monoline font.

Hatch: Once I had my design down, I tested the font on paper to see how it would look.

There are a few methods to digitally design a font and if you have an Ipad Pro, it will make your life significantly easier. I used an app called Ifont to digitize my font. It’s very user friendly and it allows you to digitize your hand fonts or design your own on the app.

After designing each letter, I then spent several hours working on the kernings (letter spacing) and once that was done, my font was done!
